Shanggulatun Village, Mashan County, Guangxi
The village lies in the mountainous area with karst landscape. There are 300 people in the village, of which 1/3 are Yao ethnic group and 2/3 are Zhuang people. Since joining the Guangxi Participatory Breeding Project in 2000, 27 local maize and vegetable varieties have been conserved and improved, and the seed diversity has been restored. The women group also revitalized the 1300-year-history "Hammering Dance". Through the ecological agriculture model of "maize-pig-biogas-vegetable", the community has achieved a sustainable development path best suitable for local small-scale agriculture.
